An unbelieving spouse is a very hard thing to go through. You may be doing everything in your own power to try and show them the goodness of god. The reality is that we cannot do it with our own strength. The power of prayer and our partner seeing our ways is what we are to lean on. 1 Peter 3:1-2 states, "Wives, in the same way, be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives." I found myself in an extreme trial and very confused about my life. I was a lukewarm Christian and God found me in the lost land and restored my heart. Prior to being saved, my partner's unbelief did not bother me as much. During that storm, though, I was trying so hard to convert him because I was afraid of trusting him if he was not a believer. What I found when I got out of the wilderness, fully transformed by Jesus Christ was that my character completely changed. I was fully transformed by the love and holiness of God. This speaks volumes for an unbelieving spouse because they see the new you. My spouse is still an unbeliever, but he does go to church with me so the seed has been planted! A God-given miracle, because he knows how important God is to me. So again, God will soften the heart of your spouse and begin to water the seed. Do not stress yourself trying to convert someone, especially if you're facing a wilderness season. What we are to do is pray and give it to God. Our god is a mighty God and he works in mysterious ways. We must be patient with our partners and give them respect and love, still. when they see the purity and reverence of your life, they too will start to crave the love of God that we found. Do not start worrying and fearing for their lives, but instead hope that they find God and pray about it. Do not minimize the power of the Lord, and "Lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your path straight" Proverbs 3:5-6. With that being said, God is love, so whoever lives in love lives in God, and God is in them. Be sure not to judge or condemn your partner or anyone for that matter, but instead, be Christ-like and watch what God does for your family! All in all, be yourself! God created you authentically to be who he created you to be, so change your character, but still love them as you did before. This life is a test and a trust, so I know how tiring it can be to be a brand new person. Seek the kingdom first, so you don't try to fix everything alone and give yourself a headache!
